Lutron RadioRA 2 support in the Poconos

RadioRA 2 was Lutron's main whole-home lighting system for about a decade before RadioRA 3 replaced it, and it is still supported. A RadioRA 2 system is worth keeping: it can be serviced and expanded, and in many cases moved onto a RadioRA 3 processor while reusing existing dimmers and keypads. Most problems we see are a repeater that lost power or was moved, or programming that was never finished.

How to tell

You probably have one if…

  • seeTouch keypads with engraved rectangular buttons.
  • A Main Repeater — a white box with a small antenna — often in a closet or near the electrical panel.
  • Lighting installed or upgraded roughly 2010 to 2021.

What we see

What goes wrong.

  • Rooms or keypads stop responding because a repeater was unplugged or moved.
  • Exterior lights on the timeclock not coming on when they should.
  • Nobody has the project file, or the dealer who programmed it is gone.

Your options

What we would do about it.

Service and finish the programming

Restore anything that dropped off, set the timeclock up properly, and program keypads around how the house is used.

Expand

Add rooms, keypads, or shades to the existing system.

Move to a RadioRA 3 processor

Gets you Lutron's current app and features. Many existing devices can stay, so this is often a processor and programming job rather than a rip-out.

Cost. A typical whole-home Lutron system in a 3,000 sq ft lake house lands between $8,000 and $20,000 installed, depending on how many loads get dimmed and how many keypads replace them. More on Lighting Control

Questions

Lutron RadioRA 2 questions

Something not covered here? Call (267) 719-3598 and ask.

Is RadioRA 2 obsolete?

No. RadioRA 3 is Lutron's current system, but RadioRA 2 is still supported and still a sound system to own and expand.

Can my RadioRA 2 dimmers move to RadioRA 3?

Many can. A RadioRA 3 processor supports a large share of RadioRA 2 devices, so an upgrade often keeps what is on the walls. We check every device before quoting.

We do not have the original programming file. Is that a problem?

It helps but is not required. If it is lost, we rebuild the programming; the dimmers and keypads themselves are fine.

Do you service the Lutron RadioRA 2 in my area?

Yes. We are based in Pocono Pines and work on Lutron systems throughout the Poconos and Northeastern PA, including Pocono Pines, Lake Naomi, Lake Harmony, Lake Wallenpaupack, Hawley, Lake Ariel. Call (267) 719-3598 or book a walkthrough.
