Lighting Control in Canadensis
Lighting control earns its keep fastest in a house that sits empty part of the year. A house that lights itself at dusk and goes dark at bedtime reads as occupied from the road, and you never drive back up the mountain because someone left the basement on.
Rural and remote properties
On a large rural property the exterior lighting is doing real work — a long driveway, outbuildings, and no streetlight for a mile. We plan the exterior first, on a timeclock so it runs without anyone home, and add interior control from there. Where the house is stone or heavy timber, we place the repeater deliberately rather than assuming coverage, because those walls are as hard on Lutron radio as they are on Wi-Fi.
Local conditions
What this looks like in Canadensis.
The housing here
Substantial older homes on large lots, plus a scattering of newer builds. Stone and heavy timber construction is common and it is unfriendly to wireless signal.
Connectivity
Variable and generally worse than the numbers suggest, because heavy tree cover and stone walls degrade whatever arrives at the property.
Why owners here buy it
A mix of year-round and seasonal owners. Networking and coverage first, then lighting and audio once there is something reliable to build on.

From $3,500
A typical whole-home Lutron system in a 3,000 sq ft lake house lands between $8,000 and $20,000 installed, depending on how many loads get dimmed and how many keypads replace them.
- Lutron dimmers and switches on every load worth dimming
- Engraved keypads at entries, primary suite, and the great room
- Scenes tuned on site at dusk, not guessed at from a spec sheet
- Astronomic timeclock so exterior lights track sunset year-round
- Vacancy sensors in baths, laundry, and pantries
- App and voice control, with the wall always working first
Questions
Lighting questions from Canadensis homeowners

Do you install lighting control in Canadensis?
Yes. Canadensis is part of our regular service area and we work throughout Monroe County, including Canadensis, Cresco, Mountainhome. We are based in Pocono Pines, so this is work we do ourselves rather than subcontract.
Do you have to rewire the house?
Almost never. Lutron RA3 and Caséta use the existing wiring — we swap the switches and add a repeater. Rewiring only comes up when a circuit has no neutral in the box, and even then there are workarounds we carry on the truck.
What happens if the internet goes out?
Every keypad and dimmer keeps working. The processor is in the house, not in a data center. You lose remote app access until the connection is back; you do not lose your lights.
